Welcome to #15. It’s been a slow-ish news week, other than Elon doing what most sensible viewers thought he was going to do and walk away.
I took a day off, it was nice. I’ll be doing that again, often. I got some advice this week which I thought I’d share, as I’d been feeling tired. Ask yourself 3-5 questions, checking in with yourself and make that part of your routine. You’ll know each day if you need to factor time in. Smart and easy.
Now, on to the #content.
1. What will it cost Musk to walk away?
Good read here on the maths of Musk walking away. $1b fee vs $44b for a business he has lost interest in. Feels basic but I can buy it.
I mostly like this breakdown. We live in a ridiculous world, social and the internet have made most big interactions like this so bizarre, it’s like going back to Sixth Form. I’m bored of businesses doing business on social like they’re a heartbroken teenager.
2. Tik Tok Creators struggling to build deep connections?
A good deep dive here on how the way Tik Tok is built is so different - the headline is a bit misleading but the points about Tik Tok being so different to YouTube are interesting.
3. Ben McKenzie hates Crypto. Yes, Ben McKenzie from THE AMAZING, OC.
Had to share, because 1) The OC was fantastic 2) Seth from the OC played a great role in a Crypto Show and 3) It’s pretty legit on the money and it’s Ryan from the OC! I am an 80s, 90s and 00s kid after all.
One quick web3 thing.
It’s basically a fire everywhere. I’ll only be sharing viewpoints on Web3 from OC starts from now on.
Odds and ends, basic links. Little commentary, just pure linkage, in wine terms, low intervention links.
This is a bit different, but ex-DOF of Spurs, Liverpool and lots of others, Damien Comolli on why he employs a ‘truth teller’. I love this concept.
I love Marvel. But this is sad, VFX staff are striking or refusing to work with them.
What next for Niantic? - I am very pro them generally. They are really interesting.
Learning lessons from bad people. I’ve had two awful bosses in my time, I learnt so much from both of them - that I would never do. Buy me wine for the names.
I love Marvel. I love this Phase, I suspect that it’s a lot of God setting, world setting and Young Avenger setting but this piece is worth reading on are we tired of it? I’m not, but I am like that.
Great piece on the dude who wrote The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck who then took his own advice and well, read the piece. HT Katelyn Donnelly, sign up to her newsletter, it’s wicked.
Really interesting view from John Amaechi on gay sportspeople coming out.
Adieu.
I’ve been labelling how I feel recently and it’s really helped manage difficult moments. E.g. I feel annoyed, that’s okay. I feel good, that’s great. It’s a super simple way of managing emotion. This came to mind today after watching Love Island, yes I love it, and watching Jacques (one of the contestants) not being able to deal with his emotions felt really sad. Dealing with emotion should be something taught early.
Bonus.
Watched Thor Love and Thunder. Enjoyed it because I am a Marvel idiot. But it was as close to Carry On Marvel as you’d see. It was fine-ish.
All the spelling and grammatical mistakes in this Substack are on purpose to test you, actually. Well done. You got them all. No, I don’t need to know about then, you have that kudos.
