Hello and welcome to #17. Late again. But I cannot tell you how much less fun it is writing on a keyboard without the letter e. But enough of that.
Now, on to the #content.
1. Tik Tok. That’s the answer to the headline.
Gen Z is the only generation to see recent declines in social media use, per Pew Research Center.
It reported less use of every social media app last fall, except for TikTok. Great line, but I do wonder if the nichification of social and the need fromt his Gen (I hate Gens terminology) for more privacy (see previous editions of this Substack) are driving this too.
2. Instagram was facing a backlash. - scroll down in this piece for a good view. Then it rolled back. NEWS.
Lot of reporting about IG becoming Tik Tok. I get it. Changes are tricky and this feels like when Snap changed and it did struggle. The Kyle rule.
But stepping back a little, I wonder if for Meta, when they look at their stable of networks, Whatsapp is providing perhaps what IG used to do? I may be the only person in social that thinks this, but I kind of get where they were/are trying to go. Lots of coverage here, here and well, everywhere. If you’re not moving forwards are you going backwards? Does that count in social? Anyway, sure it will be repackaged and back eventually.
Interesting commentary here. “Tik Tok won”.
3. The hottest streamer.
Interesting if not scientific.
4. An interesting tweet 👇
Web3, Still a dumpster fire.
Odds and ends, basic links. Little commentary, just pure linkage, in wine terms, low intervention links.
Tired of Insta? Discord has you. - though if someone can point me to a discord that scales and is still manageable I’d like to see it, please.
I’m Italian and a Londoner, a Londoner first. This is a piece on Italy and what’s wrong with it.
A final interesting tweet. 👇
Adieu.
I’m feeling really positive in my professional world right now, it made me think about December 2021, when I had COVID, I was burnt out and knew I couldn’t continue that way. I made some good intentions to make this year different but I have also had a sponsor internally for the first time in a long time, we can work as hard as we can, but without mentors and sponsors looking out for us, it can be a super hard struggle. 8 months later I am feeling full of energy and you never know what’s around the corner but I’m feeling flowy. Thanks for flowing with me, thanks to everyone who’s helped.
Bonus.
I am banging on about Atlanta again because it’s the smartest show around. Episode 8 had a cameo that made SHOCKED me at the boldness. I mean, imagine the process to it. Even if you don’t watch it, watch it. Or google it.
All the spelling and grammatical mistakes in this Substack are on purpose to test you, actually. Well done. You got them all. No, I don’t need to know about then, you have that kudos.
