Hello and welcome to #19. Back to your midweek slot. (lolz, I did start this on Tuesday, now sending Saturday - what have I become). Those following my keyboard issues - no need to fear, I have a new laptop. The Premier League is back and Spurs are winning the league, mad to consider - I know, but that’s where we are.
Now, on to the #content.
1. The ‘millennial’ pause is here.
I am a millennial, which means almost nothing. Like, genuinely zero other than what year I was born. However, a generation of people who grew up as the first real social media users are now ageing out. This is true. I also suspect that the next gens will not see social as we see it now, but more private, more niche and public-facing media (what we call social today) will be their public persona.
2. The viral sound making Tik Tok think big.
Good headline but some interesting points. I genuinely think Tik Tok is the defining media, by an absolute mile of the now and next 5 years.
3. Community or Discovery the new social Q
Not really a new question but it’s back. Most businesses don’t take community seriously as it is, I expect discovery to win.
4. Pressure vs Performance.
I work a lot. I like it. I get proper fulfilment from it, not always the case, but that’s another story. This is a nice breakdown of pressure and what it means. Framing things is one of the most powerful mental models I use. Give it a go.
Odds and ends, basic links. Little commentary, just pure linkage, in wine terms, low intervention links.
Mckinsey summer reading. Whisper-Sync for the win.
Clubhouse is splitting up and genuinely no idea what they are saying. My bet is that they are gone now but like Vine, something will come in and do audio (maybe) and make a Tik Tok (unlikely, but possible).
Adieu.
I am on holiday next week, i’d say this will be delayed but truth is it can’t be more delayed than today!
Bonus.
I watched Big Boys on Channel 4 and it’s heartwarming, funny, sweet and it made me cry (not hard tbf). Not many people talking about it, but 24min eps we blitzed it in two nights.
All the spelling and grammatical mistakes in this Substack are on purpose to test you, actually. Well done. You got them all. No, I don’t need to know about then, you have that kudos.
