Hello and welcome to #20. Twenty Subs, well, 21 if you include a surprisingly high performing post on my thoughts of EA splitting from FIFA. I still really enjoy writing this Substack and the time it gives me to read and intentionally think - ah that’s an interesting idea, I must connect it and share it. I’m on holiday this week but haven’t been able to switch off as much as I’d like. Sometimes that happens, I’m flowing with it. My son had a routine ear infection but that meant a trip to A&E, only my second ever trip, the first the day he was born. An odd week. But anyway, everything is fine. In a month, in 6 months, in 12 months, will I remember all the things in my mind right now? Probably not. Everything will be fine, it always is. Thank you for reading, many of you for 20 full weeks. I hope you find it useful.
Now, on to the #content.
1. Instagram, Tik Tok and three trends.
If you are friends with me on Linkedin you saw me share this. But it’s such a good piece I have to share it top of the Sub. I think the piece really positions the future interestingly by looking at the journey of both Meta and Tik Tok and user behaviour. The piece mentions ‘The End of Social’ too, (#19) which is increasingly what I am setting my visions on.
2. New trend: Long form for longer attention spans
Gen Z have longer attention spans and are watching more and more long form. Take note. Sure, the piece is by Google and why would Google want the info that long-form is growing? Answers on a postcard and put your cynicism aside.
2. YouTube. A pretty big deal.
YouTube is underrated. Mad really. But I think that’s true.
4. Thriller being sued by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz for $28m
Remember Thriller? I do. I remember having to consider it as a platform. Well, it’s not in a good place.
Two fun tweets.
Odds and ends, basic links - just pure linkage.
TV ads from the 80s and 90s. Because, why not? Imagine them as 6s. lol.
Channel Stores on YouTube are rising and hot, hot property.
Ryan Reynolds on connected TVs. Bit of fun.
What makes a great strategist? - my favourite management writer at mo.
Adieu.
Preach. 👇
Bonus.
I’ve got no TV. I want light, though I cannot wait for SHE-HULK on Thursday. Thanks for reading.
All the spelling and grammatical mistakes in this Substack are on purpose to test you, actually. Well done. You got them all. No, I don’t need to know about then, you have that kudos.
