Hello and welcome to #27. A week later than usual. For only the second time, I’ve missed a week. I hate to be playing the ‘so much is going on card’ but…so much is going on, really positive stuff but a lot. Which really just means I have less time to read and I like to make sure I know what I am sharing.
I am at Ad Week this week in New York and been taking in some of the talks as well as giving a talk myself. I find it tough to get to talks, conferences and unconferences but I do leave New York feeling inspired (I know, what a wanker) and have a few ideas to take back. All in all, very good.
Scroll to the end for a surprise selfie which I think is a thing in newsletters now.
Now, on to the #content.
1. They came for the full stop now they come for the 👍
I love these stories, because every generation always shifts language and tone and now we have lost the full stop, the gif and I think emojis are on the way out. Evolve or die. Or not.
2. Consumer social is dead.
Always great thinking in the below substack, this paints a great history but also a positive view forward. I think that the view is probably focused on a US viewpoint vs a more macro or EMEA/Latam view but it’s a fair view. My view is that social is dead as we classed it, social is just media and real ‘social’ apps and platforms are now smaller groups e.g. WhatsApp or Discord. I think Social is basically TV with feedback now. And yet to see a community that scales above a certain volume of people.
3. Students watched this type of tiktok 412b times and it’s not porn
Headline is top class clickbait, but Tik Tok continues to surprise older media when writing about it at least. It’s really becoming a utility before our eyes, YouTube and Google knows it too.
4. Interesting thoughts on Meta and the innovators dilemma
I always find case studies a real learning process. Shared with no commentary…
Odds and ends, basic links. Pure linkage.
OnlyFans is moving mainstream - still feel their tech is poor IMO.
My favourite Tik Tok Meme right now.

Ashley was always my favourite.
Bonus.
I have been away, so I’m behind on Dragons and I finished The Bear on D+ and I absolutely adored it. Episode 7 may be one of the best pieces of TV this year. Intense, funny, sad, the whole shebang. Loved it.
All the spelling and grammatical mistakes in this Substack are on purpose to test you, actually. Well done. You got them all. No, I don’t need to know about them, you have that kudos.
