Hello and welcome to #28. We’re really in Q4 now, arent we? Ramp. Up. Well at least my end. Regular readers will know I have a battle with holiday, taking it and planning it. So much so I am going to make that one of my key 2023 focuses. All ears for how people manage theirs and make sure they have momentum, rest time and still operate at the level they want. Do email me! My coach (yes I am a dickhead) said to me a few weeks ago that you have to rest a muscle after stress or you’ll get injured. Quite.
New readers, I will throw in quite a lot of random hyperbolic examples…I’m at social media week on the 7th of November if any of you are there, giving a little talk. Check it out.
5 from the top, 2 in the middle and 8 at the bottom this week.
Now, on to the #content.
1. Important piece on moderation + Twitter + Elon
He is going to find this a lot more challenging than he thinks. I did say Vine was a mistake messing up though tbf.
2. Tik Tok is news and real time
More and more Americans are using Tik Tok for news, it’s taking over. Oh and Media plans around anything live that are lazy will still have Twitter in vs Tik Tok. Just a thought.
3. Cameo? Completed it.
Inbetweeners star Jay has made £1m on Cameo, I’ve noticed their rise into creators/influencers/celebs. I wonder if they build this out more. I suspect they are.
4. Stop trying to make audio happen
Not podcasts, obvs. Are we even at peak podcast? I digress. But Clubhouse (RIP) and all the clones. Interesting, my read on this is that we have what we need from audio and don’t need it embedded in existing platforms. Doubt that makes a good investment deck though.
5. No such thing as peak colab.
Really like the thinking here. I think the mutual value being created here for many will outweigh any tiredness. Lots more to it than that though.
Two Tweets/Tik Tok.
Odds and ends, basic links. Pure linkage.
Walmart is launching a content creator platform. They won’t be the last.
Burberry x Minecraft. Of course.
Amazon’s staff attrition costs are $8b. That’s genuinely insane.
Years ago I worked in autonomous cars, we used to say it was 10-15 years away. Seems it still is, 7 years later. More shut downs. More to come.
Half of US consumers by-pass paywalls. Only half?
Bonus.
A list this week.
1. House of Dragons, I enjoyed it.
2. Drag Race UK - great quality this year.
3. Peripheral - got something, but is it going to get too complex?
All the spelling and grammatical mistakes in this Substack are on purpose to test you, actually. Well done. You got them all. No, I don’t need to know about them, you have that kudos.
