Oh hi.
Welcome to #34. It’s been 3 months since I last wrote, I’m sorry and hi new subscribers. I hope the archive has been useful. I read Five Things on Friday (one of my favs) and the opening resonated with me, read it.
I have similarly written the date of this Substack at least 5 times. This is the one though, 20 Feb, 27 Feb , 12 March, 25 March, promise ✅ .
A lot has been going on, mainly I got a new job, well, I moved roles and teams. I have been onboarding which I’ve really loved and had to focus on. Which is great and marks a long road to a position and area I’ve wanted to move to for a while. I’m always happy to talk about this if anyone is interested 1:1.
I’ve had to consider what this Substack should be moving forwards. I will of course read and take an interest in social and creator marketing but I’ll also be considering a lot of other areas more than previously. I won’t have less time per see, but I’ll have to consider my own time a little more too to find that balance.
So I am going to slowly try testing different kinds of newsletter styles, more so from the point of view of wider leadership, maco marketing and well, just interesting things I’d normally have tweeted within those spaces, which was the whole point of this Substack. It will probably be a shorter Sub, too, but who am I kidding, I talk too much. I’ll try though.
Now, on to the #content.
1. Moviemaking and gaming
I feel I’ve read many articles like this in the last 15 years but finally I think there is more seriousness, it’s now, it’s last year it’s the future. Gaming is culture and where there is culture, there are ways to borrow from it.
2. YouTube’s podcast goldrush.
Audio is underrated (still?) and podcasts on YouTube are too. YouTube is still key from a culture pov and their video pods and the platform subscription to watch/listen without app open on iOS is powerful (more ppl should know). Shorts too (see prev Subs) is building well.
3. Building great teams
I just can’t get enough thinking on how we/you should build teams. I think how we manage, build and develop teams is one of the key skills now and in the future. I think we can all learn from Sport in particular, lot of thinking to start your journey here.
4. Moncler is really hot right now.
See also Moncler x Alicia keys - nostalgia is here/never went away. I am a big Salehe Bembury fan and his work there tells me everything you need to know. Fashion is always fascinating to watch.
5. Fragmentation of social is changing hiring
Should also change how marketing teams are structured IMO.
6. How football became smart and art got dumb
Bit of fun but football writing has been consistently good for a while now. Depth, thoughtful and smart. Twitter football, however…
7. Meta killing NFT support.
👀 That was quick
8. Brand isn’t a dirty word.
Performance + Brand. Some good thinking and think a lot of people will see these challenges/thoughts.
9. Everything you think about Italian food is wrong.
Bit of fun for a weekend.
A tweet
Bonus.
So many things I’ve watched so far in 2023, but The Last of Us won’t be beaten. Episode 3 in particular is a force of pure creativity and storytelling. It may be the best episode of TV I can remember. Succession is back (I am worried it wont be good), Yellowjackets (less worried).
All the spelling and grammatical mistakes in this Substack are on purpose to test you, actually. Well done. You got them all. No, I don’t need to know about them, you have that kudos.
