Hello and welcome to number #39. If you missed it —> we’re back.
It’s been a busy few weeks and I am soon to be on holiday for three, yes three weeks. So expect more updates during my time off as I’ll have a bit more time to write and just breathe, amongst the child care. I can’t wait. For any London parents, I’ve got a newsletter I’ve been gatekeeping at the end of this edition.
Now, on to the #content.
🔗 1. The end of Monoculture?
This is a good take, IMO, on something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time. With social media phase of our media/culture over in the sense of it being social and evolving into something else - there is an argument that ‘monoculture’ is coming to an end. The recent end of Colbert is an interesting example and Simon - another must follow - puts together a great view here on what that means.
🔗 2. Jet 2 Holiday
If you have spent any time on Tik Tok you would have heard the Jet 2 Holiday song. It’s insanely viral and is it good or bad for the brand? Well, most of the uses are of bad holidays, fights on holidays or planes and below average hotels. But does it matter? Would you ever think of Jet 2 otherwise?
🔗 3. Anime is big business
Crunchyroll is a business I have a huge amount of time and respect for and they are going from strength to strength. I guess with the end of 'mono-culture’ - into the nichification - it should be a word - Anime is going to become, if it isn’t already, a powerhouse.
🔗 4. It’s been a tough time for games
If you don’t know Amir Satvat then he’s a bit of a big voice in games and a great follow on the industry but also helping people find roles - his community has helped a lot of people. His post here on the economics of games right now isnt rocket science but it is worth reading.
🔗 5. UK needs to get serious about AirCon
The last month I’ve spoken about this a lot with colleagues and friends. FT does a really good job at making a case from a pov of productivity (on brand). But also makes a case for something different too.
🔗 6. Merging Tech and HR depts
Thought this was interesting, Moderna - those vaccine folks - are rethinking how it does workforce planning merging two unlikely areas together. They have been working with OpenAi for awhile.
👀 Bonus.
If you’re in London or I guess the South, the Museum Mum newsletter is great for bringing together all the great cultural bits going on. I read it every month but the pre-half-term and summer holiday editions are especially great.
TV-wise, I am struggling at the moment for new stuff. I think I’ve completed it this month. Share any good TV, please.
The first 20mins of this Rest Is Entertainment on A.I is must listen IMO.

All the spelling and grammatical mistakes in this Substack are on purpose to test you, actually. Well done. You got them all. No, I don’t need to know about them, you have that kudos.
