Hello and welcome to #8 of Stuff I used to Tweet. I am still recovering from a holiday which for me means getting back into the routine of things. Iโve been reading a lot recently and right now Iโm reading a book called โA new way to thinkโ. This line spoke to me and I am sure it will to many people who work in any workplace, especially in creative or games. ๐๐ผ
Iโm also happy to say that Spurs are back in the Champions League. Now, on to the #content.
๐๐๐1. Regrets? Iโve had a few.
I start this week with something different. Iโm a big fan of The New Fatherhood newsletter, itโs great and has a great community around it on the Substack and on the messaging platform, Geneva (which I really like). This conversation with Daniel Pink on regrets really spoke to me. I hope it does to you too.
Itโs almost as much of a cliche that someone says I donโt have regrets these days, though perhaps it depends on the regrets. Worth a read.
๐๐2. I donโt wake up to influence, I wake up to create
Great piece on what is potentially in store for creators/influencers next. Some great quotes and thoughts. Rex knows his stuff, though I have always *personally* been slightly sceptical about nano/micro-influencers, but it depends on what youโre doing. He talks about tech a little in this piece, for me, itโs going to be key in the next phase, for brands and for creators. A lot of new businesses in this space will thrive.
๐๐ 3. Guide for startups for surviving the creator crash
Everything is going down, other than inflation - political, sue me - YC sent their start ups a guide to dealing with the next year and this is a smart guide to dealing with it
TL;DR Because 99% of creator revenue accumulates at the top .01% of creators, creator economy startups have to find a way to justify taking a % of revenue. This is not an easy task and only a select few will succeed in the coming bear market.
2 quick game things.
๐๐ Esports is growing. New report suggests audience will pass half a billion. Is that a lot? I dunno to be honest.
๐๐ Netflix now TikTok, are testing in games? Personally, think a lot of work is going to be needed for either to be successful.
Odds and ends, basic links. Little commentary, just pure linkage, in wine terms, low intervention links.
๐๐๐ฑInside YouTubeโs bet on Shot Form Content TikTok is much more YT than it is IG. Iโve been saying this for over a year now.
๐๐๐คHow to speak up when it matters.
๐๐๐How to deal with disappointment. An old one, but a good one I revisited this week.
๐๐๐ตTikTok has changed music, now itโs trying to keep up.
๐๐๐บNielson report on TV in the US. Is Streaming at a tipping point?
๐๐๐ค๐ฆพI had a passionate love affair with a robot. Not me personally but interesting.
๐๐๐Twitterโs in a bit of a mess. Yes, I could have written that any time in the last 10 years. I still love it. ๐๐ผ
Adieu.
Thanks for reading. Iโm on a work trip next week so I may even drop the newsletter Wednesday, I know, crazy.
A last thought:
โThe difference between good and great results is often found in consistently doing the boring things you know you should do exactly when you feel like doing them the leastโ
Bonus.
I finished Love Life Series 2 in a week. I loved S1 but S2 is even stronger, the reason I love it aside from the script is that it feels more like a genuine love narrative that deals with genuine experiences, itโs not a story that feels impossible. On iPlayer.
All the spelling and grammatical mistakes in this Substack are on purpose to test you, actually. Well done. You got them all. No, I donโt need to know about then, you have that kudos.
